Artist Statement

"Into The Woods" by Cathyann Burgess

I began a series for a show I was to have in June 2020 over a year ago. The theme grew from a smaller investigation of waterfalls and parks close to where I live. Concurrently, my coop gallery also explored the theme of climate change which further fed my desire to paint the “Woodlands and Water” series. Part of why I paint landscapes is to capture the mood of place, honoring what I witness and partly to share my efforts visually to show others what they may be missing in the future or neglect to notice today.
