"Branching Out" by A. Hunter Taylor

This is a Tulip Poplar. Against a blue and cloud filled sky the light moved rapidly to cast shadow plays on

the trunk and branches. The long trunk shadow grabbed my attention. The curvilinear thrust of the branches curving up and then down and up again extending into space showed movement throughout the surrounding area. The rough bark clung to the trunk like ribbons on a pole. The subjective colors came from a heightened sense oObserving this tree for four days in front of it  in late winter. Spring was about to unfold and there was a rush to paint it before the green buds appeared on the tips of branches.
