"Hurricane Warning" by Kathryn Kages

As Hurricane Matthew approached the South Carolina coast in early October 2016, before I evacuated from Fripp Island, I couldn’t help but take pictures of the deep, changing sky and the powerful surf. For this painting, I wanted to communicate the power, the drama and the extremes of an impending storm through deep colors and strong marks.

"Sunset at Skull Creek" by Kathryn Kages

Because the South Carolina barrier islands run northeast by southwest, both extraordinary sunrises, sunsets, moonrises and galaxy risings are a daily occurrence. In this painting, the light of one of those sunsets covered all it touched with orange, peach, blue, violet, with the softly lapping water reflecting the magic.
