Artist Statement

"Thanks for the Rescue" by Ruth Crowe 

I painted this Asian Brown Owl from a picture taken while visiting a raptor rescue center. For the painting surface, I chose white Pastelboard. After sketching the owl, I under painted my sketch with hard pastels, soft pastels and alcohol. Pan pastels were used for the background to achieve a soft texture to contrast with the the owl which was done with soft pastels and a few hard pastels. My art education has been through classes, workshops (Richard McKinley 3, Kim English, Barbara Jaenicke 2, Alan Flattmann,( plus others) extensive self-study, videos, and practice. Recently I have discovered the great source of YouTube.
