" In Cottonwood Shadows" by Kay Gordon

Cottonwood Lake is tucked in the high Rockies on the way to Cottonwood Pass.  It is one of my favorite plein air spots when we spend time in Colorado.

The reflections from overhanging cottonwood branches where some ducks were resting mixed with the earthy yellows of the cliffs across the lake.

I can still feel the strong, cold winds that were buffeting the lake that day.  I painted with my board in my lap and my winter coat zipped to the chin!

"Near the Hunters Camp" by Kay Gordon

Yucca is native to hot and arid lands. This beauty was above the wild waters of the Arkansas River in central Colorado.  The surrounding 14,000-foot, snow-laced mountains feed the river until late spring.

Groups of rafters and lone river kayaks occasionally hurried by as I sat to paint and enjoyed the wilderness.
