"A Taste of Fall” by Janet Johnson

" A Taste of Fall" was painted on 24x18 anthracite Pastelmat using only Panpastels and the basic set of 7 tools, except for the initial sketch which was white charcoal pencil. I was fortunate to be given almost an entire set of Panpastels from a lovely lady who was moving to assisted living. I am honored to have produced a beautiful painting in tribute to her kind generosity. The reference photo was taken in Seattle, WA. This was my very first time using Panpastels and I loved the painterly effects and soft background shapes achieved.

“Undampened Spirits” by Janet Johnson

"Undampened Spirits" is a painting done from my reference photo of downtown Jersey City while visiting my daughter in late January. The painting is on a full sheet, 26.5x18.5, of dark red Art Spectrum Colourfix sanded paper. I began with perspective measurements and sketching for the street and buildings. I then laid down a few brayer marks with metallic gold acrylic paint in areas where those reflections were strongest. Then I built the painting using various brands of medium to soft pastels.
