Artist Statement

"Emma" by Nancy Marshburn

Emma belongs to my friend, a true animal lover. Emma is my first animal portrait and her incredibly blue eyes drew me in as well as the challenge of painting a white dog. I hope her sweetness comes through.

Nests are a recurring theme in my work. They are symbolic of the cycle of life-birth, raising family, seeing children leave the proverbial nest. A bird’s nest has a seasonal function, much like we have seasons in our lives.
