Artist Statement

"Boundless Youth" by Rozanne Lorch

This painting is the result of my live demo in Bull City gallery's storefront window. I had sketched in some details of the cat prior, had a photo reference with me, and my pastels. Never having made a demo with an audience, I was understandably anxious. Once getting into it, however, the fear just went away. I laid in some background color and brushed it with alcohol to diffuse the intensity. Then I just got loose and played. Delighted with the spontaneity of the piece, all that remained to complete it later were a few defining strokes.
