Artist Statement

"Where is Wolf" by Jeannie Gilland

Wolf Kahn once said that an artist is doing a dance when painting and doesn’t have to create a particular kind of tree, and that idea of being so specific is too constraining. It prevents us from being inventive and playful. With this idea in mind, I created these trees with a brayer. Trees swaying in the breeze. This painting was done in honor of Wolf Kahn. I used his color pattern, vivid color choices, and of course lots of trees. A tribute to a great pastel artist in the year of his death.
